This was my 52nd fourteener and Tim's 2nd. However, Tim is a man who owns a Deathstar Pez so you know he won't be bothered by a little thing called the knife edge!

And now for some comments on the actual climb :
Friday afternoon we flew from Dallas to Vail. We went to Summit Canyon Mountaineering in Glenwood Springs to buy a gas canister and they were totally sold out! They suggested we try the Factory Surplus place up the road and luckily for us they had some Primus canisters (Jetboil size). We spent the evening in Carbondale stuffing our faces with pizza, beer and Scotch. Which I believe is the correct way to adapt to altitude...
Saturday morning we drove to the trailhead, no problems in our fine rental vehicle. The high clearance was nice but probably not essential. Then we wandered down the ditch trail, stopping regularly to smell the flowers and hug the trees. No great hurry on such a beautiful day. Eventually we reached Capitol Lake and found a nice flat spot for our tent.
Sunday we set the alarm for 4am, and managed to ignore it for a good 20 minutes. After a quick cup of hot chocolate we set off at 5am, and saw some headlights already high above us, close to the top of the Mt Daly saddle. Progress was good and route finding was easier than expected. K2 soon loomed into view. We chose to go up and over, which proved to be a wise choice (not so on the return, where we took the around-the-side option). Then we began the knife edge, which we both thought was pretty easy compared to the loose steep stuff just below Capitol's summit. Another hour or so brought us to 14130 ft and amazing views all around! We basked in the sunshine for 50 minutes then started the long descent to Capitol Lake and then the car. A long hike for weary flatlanders! Well worthwhile though for such a great day.
Well that's about it. Other than to inform y'all that Tim also has a Yoda Pez - next stop Pyramid?
