 Longs Peak - Keyhole Route

We climbed Longs Peak, our 2nd try at it. August 2007 we failed because of wet, slick rock on the Homestretch. This year we made it, my favorite peak so far! We camped at the Boulder Field to make it a little easier.

The usual view of the East Face on our trip up.

It was a great trip and a lot of fun. We saw about a gajillion other people, because it was the weekend, but we didn‘t really realize how many people there really were. We actually ended up counting over 400 people over both days.

I started hiking I don‘t know when... long time ago, before age 3. The Narrows... I just didn‘t look down and they are actually like the easiest part of the climb, and there is a lot of rabble about them, but they are wider than they look. My first 14er was age 8, Mt. Sherman from Fourmile. For motivation, I have a goal of climbing 8 every summer. This is to stay on track for my goal of finishing by age 18. Looking at my feet helps too.
My parents wanted to climb a 14er while we were in the mountains on a vacation and took me along. I hated it. But now it is one of my favorite things to do and my friends all say I‘m crazy, and see it as work.

Thanks for asking.

Thanks.

Kieners, eh? I don‘t think I could handle the heights (you know, 2000 feet of air below your feet) I‘m more of a hiker/scrambler than a climber. Good luck!

I'm impressed by your accomplishments for your young age! great Summit photo! Were you scared at all going through the narrows? When did you start hiking? when did you do you first 14eer? Check out trip report dated 14 Sept 2008, that is my 6 yr old...She does great, proud she did the 9 miles with no whining, but i motivate with treats like gummy worms and tell lots of stories while we walk. As a kid, do you have any secrets or insights, about being motivated to do what it takes to do long hikes, or 14eers. What did your parents' (assuming they got you started) do to help develop your interest. Do you remember what you felt when you were younger and first doing this? Do you have friends that like climbing too, or is it hard to find someone your age to keep up with?
