Hiked up FR 126 which was packed down fairly well due to snow mobile traffic. Was trying for the "Cone Master" (N & S Twin Cone Peaks & Mt. Blaine) as described in Roach‘s Lost Creek Wilderness book however this became difficult due to the deep snowshoeing required above tree line. The trail is now broken for anyone wishing to visit a beautiful, peaceful area. Approach to the end of the snow mobile track was done without snow shoes. Due to the snow softening in the afternoon I elected to complete the return with snow shoes. Great hike. I will definitely return sometime (perhaps when aspens are changing next fall) to complete the Cone Master.

I agree that this trail would be great around peak color time. I did the ”cone master” about 3 weeks ago and recall thinking that the switchbacks just past the second gate would be fantastic had there been leaves.
