 Injury Test ?

The second year, after stopping 45 year smoking habit, I gained 60 lbs then sufferd a Plantar Faciaitis (sp). All the inserts , stretching etc has improved the malady. I limped around for 31/2 months. Mt Democrat was chosen as the place to see if my efforts have worked.
Leaving Silt at 2am Saturday morn had me arriving at the TH just before 5am. I had popped 1200mg of Ibuprofen, drank lots of water, tightend my laces, packed food, filled Camedback, forgot to grab sunglasses and 14ers.com hat from front seat ,and set off on the trail allittle after 5am.
Headlamp on , I crossed creek and headed up--- wrong path in the dark so had to adjust to correct. Hiking the first section was really bumming me out. I thought I was in over my head ,having no conditioning, after awhile I ran out of excuses and kept trudging up. Soon I was at the saddle and saw I was 30min quicker that 3 wks earlier (on first test). Another Cliff shot and I was off towards summit.New territory for me.
The hiking community are great encouragement for a fat old man. On the summit I met fellow 14er.com members that had come up other side and were stoked with the ascent. (aboynamedmargaret and
On the way down I run into MountainHiker (Ian) who I hadn't seen for along tme , futher down was MountainHikerette of course, they had their grandkids from Minnesota with.
I sit here the day after my summit trying to gauge how I am phyically and am convinced that the pure joy of getting the summit and meeting and greeting friends will outweight all.
