James Peak - NE Ridge - ADDED GPS Tracks

So I headed up James Peak via St. Mary's Glacier. It was a windy, cold hike, but a good one. I went with my brother and we took the northeast ridge. I'd say that it was very challenging, but the views you got that route were amazing. We came down the mountain on the south side which is just inclined, not really challenging like the ridge. But the views on that south side we noticed definitely were not as good as the ridge. Overall a great hike. We have spotted mountain lion footprints and feces the last two times we've been up, but not actually spotted the animal. Crampons were extremely helpful for the glacier and that south side. With more snow, I'd bet snowshoes would be great over the tundra between the glacier and the peak.

Take care!
Lydia

Was there a CMC group up there?

Really nice job on the pics! I need to climb James at some point! Is that the North Face behind pics 7 thru 11?

Sweet! Thanks for the compliments on the pictures!

Yeah, it definitely was one of those groups or something. The ”leader” was giving instruction on how to climb and stuff.

And yes, that‘s the North Face in the pics. It‘s pretty impressive looking huh?!

Superb photo‘s! I love it up here! That group was a CMC class. Have you seen anyone ski down the North face or image 13? That is cool, but crazy. We have a couple of cats roaming around, and a family of moose have taken up residence in the sub-division. I saw the cat tracks when I was up there on Nov. 29. A few years ago, a new house that was being built had the crawlspace become a den for a mom cat, DOW came and relocated her.
Glad you enjoyed your time up here.

I‘m definitely jealous you live up there!! It‘s gorgeous! I‘ve seen your postings and it looks like you play around that area a lot! I was just looking at your profile, so you provide parking at your residence for people visiting the Glacier?

The parking lot is the one just past the trailhead, on the left.
My house is on the Alice side of the sub-division,and the lot is on the Winterland side. Only 2 minutes away from the lot though, and I also provide 2 toilets, dog waste bags and trash/recycle cans, for all to use. I have been playing around this area for 20 years now and lived here for 11, love it!
Happy New Year!!
