Bald Mountain 13,684
South Ridge via Boreas Pass
Approx 5 miles RT and 2,800ft net elevation gain
The day started off drizzly and cloudy and ended up clearing on the way down from the summit. This was my first time hiking off of Boreas Pass. I have admired many of the mountains that adorn this pass and thought Bald Mountain would be a great day hike.
This hike is a nice ridge walk that is steep with some scree and a little scrambling on some steep talus.
The views are marvelous and the wildflowers were in full bloom!
Bald Mountain as seen from the trail leading northeast from the top of Boreas Pass
The trail as it leaves treeline and enters into a basin
A look to the southwest toward Mt. Silverheels and Red Mountain
Approaching Black Powder Pass with the south ridge in view to Bald Mtn. There a few bumps in the ridge before the actual summit which cannot be seen from here.
Another great view of Mt. Silverheels from the start of the ridge
A view of North Star Mtn, Quandary Peak, Fletcher Mtn, and Pacific Peak
Heading up some steep scree at the beginning of the ridge
A look down at Black Powder Pass
The handsome SE face of Mt. Guyot comes into view-seeing this view of one of my favorite mountains makes my day up on the ridge
The ups and downs of the ridge
Some of the steep talus sections
The final pitch to the summit
Me on the summit in full rain gear although it never did more than drizzle
A sampling of wildflowers seen on this trip. I am always on the lookout for new-to-me species.
All in all, another great bicentennial with not another soul seen on the summit! Solitude.
Happy trails!

I am quite the flower enthusiast-unfortunately the season for them is coming to an end
