These peaks are out of order but wanted to send out the info.
9/3 my wife and I climbed Bierstadt. We left the upper parking lot around 9:30 and hit the summit at 1:00. This was my wifes 1st class 2 and she did very well on the boulder scramble.
Perfect weather all day long.
Several people were confused by having to park in the upper parking lot due to the lower being closed because of the construction.
Also the road from Grant to the trailhead is in very good shape. Concrete curbs are going in so maybe they are going to pave more of the road?
Met a lot of great folks from all over.
8/31 the road heading up to the trailhead on Grays is still in pretty good shape. The weather was dark and windy and at around 13300 it was spitting some snow flakes. I was a little under the weather due to some intestinal trouble ( nuff said) and had to turn around.
Some folks were going on about a black bear being seen in the rocks just past the willows.
I think it was me they saw feeling the effects of the illness...........
9/2 we headed back towards Princeton and did a little hiking around Chalk Lake and back to Agnes Vaille Falls. This is one beautiful hike, short sweet and scenic. Between the white granite rock, the green on the ponderosa pines and the deep blue skies it's like heaven.
After that we headed up to Cottonwood Pass. I can't say enough good things about this drive.
9/1 we drove up 4 mile creek road towards Sherman, the road is passable by passenger car but it is very rough in places so take it slow. We drove all the way up to the gate and parked.
The hike up to the saddle between Sherman and Sheridan is all on the gravel road and very easy but is real neat to see the old mines and trickling streams.
The wind was strong all morning but once on the saddle over looking the Iowa Gulch it was blowing full force. I weigh 250 and it was moving me around with ease so the saddle is as far as we went.
I will be revisting Sherman and Grays to knock them off my "list".
I have to give a shout out to the folks who run Arrowhead RV Park and Camp just north of Buena Vista. This is a low cost and very clean place to stay. With electric and water at most of the camp sites. And if you've never stayed in a yurt you need to do so at least once.
