Mt. Flora attempt from Berthoud Pass

Mt. Flora Attempt via Berthoud Pass & Colorado Mines Peak

Managed only Colorado Mines summit, hence let's call this a conditions report.

Followed boot pack 1/2 way to tree line, added snowshoes at half way point. Decent layer about 8 inches down at start, 18" plus inches of powder higher up. Gusty wind low was continuous above tree line. Some wind hammered snow up high and lots of snow movement. Cold temps, low visibility, and a turn at the summit without ever sighting Mt. Flora. Better luck another day . . .

What a difference a week makes...     2010-11-15 12:31:20
Nice job under some rough conditions. Hard to believe that just last week I was up on CO Mines and Flora without even needing a coat!

We sure do seem to be following each other around a lot this year, arent we? French, Grizzly, now Mines. Good taste.

What a difference a week makes . . .

Derek, I read your report and literally said ”now that's a good half day out, we should follow his lead” to my climbing partner. So this time, we literally followed right on your coat tails (or lack thereof). The only thing this copycat get wrong was the weather!
