Nice report. As far as Meers goes, forget meers, down the road a ways is a small place called "Anns" food is just as good if not better, less crowded, way cheaper and better service.
The ratings are a bit ruff, but that's just the nature of the place. When talking about crab eyes, the easiest 5th class route is called 5.8, but just about anywhere else it would be hard 5.9. None the less a great, classic route, its called karlbird.
Cool to see some people talking about climbing in the Wichita's.

It may well be 3rd class, but if there is one move that is 4th class, then the entire route is rated 4th class. I can't remember if there was that one move or not, but I think there was.

Looking at your climbing resume compared to mine, I'd trust your judgment.

I had some people at the visitors center tell us about Ann's! We'll have to try it next time.

Glad to see some folks extolling the beauties of my home state. I have fond memories of waking up to a foggy morning after camping in Charon's Garden in the midst of a herd of buffalo. We saw some jets going through manuevers out there, too. I have been going to Ouachita National Forest since I was a kid--I think that area in the fall is some of Oklahoma's prettiest country. Lots of Oklahomans don't even realize what is down there in the Southeast.

Totally agree. And good climbing/hiking at Robbers Cave State Park.

When we did Mitchell this week, we saw elk and coyotes. Last year, lots of bison. Love how wild the Wichitas are.

All you Okies need to head down this weekend (Nov 6-8) to Quartz Mountain State Park (Baldy Point) for the annual fall climber's gathering. Lots of fun, good climbing, fun party, and get to meet some cool people.....like me.

Aside from the summitpost reference, if anyone has some details about this I'd love to see what's up. I can't go because I'll be working, but I know others will want to be there and would like to know more. Baldy Point looks like a pretty serious climb. Not sure exactly what "details" you're looking for, but the link has a section on the Gathering. In a nutshell, though, it is an informal get-together of rock climbers at Baldy Point (Quartz Mountain State Park) in SW Oklahoma.

Hey guys. Climbed Mitchell on Sat. We scrambled up on the NW side. Thanks for the heads up on this fun climb. We should get an Okie 14er climb next summer. Anyone interested?

I'm hoping for a spring snow climb, then maybe something later in the summer. Eying Grays via Lost Rat or C-Couloir on Missouri for spring; then maybe Wetterhorn in the summer. But truly, I'm down for anything. Esp in the San Juans!

Glad you enjoyed Mitchell. I thought it was a blast. I'm looking at doing Twin Rock Peak next, I hear it's similar Class 3-4 stuff that is on Mitchell's NW side. Also plan to do some of the easier ones with folks who may not be down with that much exposure. Sunset looks nice.

I grew up climbing in the Wichitas, great place to learn...
I miss Spaceballs, i twas a 5.11 overhang...best climb in the area hands down.
I hope to make it there over Thanksgiving, it's just about the only thing that will keep me sane over Turkey vacation
