Winter Solo of Mckinley

Postby mtnjam » 25 Jan 2011, 06:21

Has anyone else been following this guy?
Lonnie Dupre is trying to climb McKinley in the month of January. He has a sat phone and a member of his team has been keeping up a blog. Well, he has now been in a trench for 6 days at 17200. It's a crazy story. I hope the weather gives him a break soon.

Yeah my buddy just showed me this story last night. Check out the low press system up there now 01/25. Yikes.

Crazy stuff.

mas·och·ism - gratification gained from pain, deprivation, degradation, etc., inflicted or imposed on oneself, either as a result of one's own actions or the actions of others, esp. the tendency to seek this form of gratification.

I can't even imagine being in this situation. Trapped in a hole for several days with no place to pee, or even wiggle room. I hope this guy makes it down safe.

I saw this a few weeks ago on SP. I couldn't imagine being up there in almost full days of darkness. I really hopes the weather allows him to get back down safely.

Sounds like he has a short window in the weather and will head down to a previous lower camp.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by things that you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, and catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Looks like mother nature giving him the middle finger and he is turning back down to base.
