Lake is thawed out, boat rentals are $45/day

Huge thanks to everyone for taking the time to make recommendations. It was an amazing weekend full of wildlife, climbing and most importantly, sunshine. We got pretty high on the East Face of Buck Mountain, but ended up turning back due to heinously wet snow conditions. A poor overnight freeze, an east face and a hot day = mashed potatoes above cliff bands at 9 a.m. Should have started an hour earlier. Oh well. I plan on writing a TR since I couldn't find a ton of info online about early season attempts, and we made it most of the way. Awfully fun climb.

Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Yeah, it was a little rough with the temps up there, huh? Managed to ski W hourglass on Nez Perce, got shut out on Woodring's Fallopian tube approach, and the East face of Mt St John (recommended route thanks to a non-Tetonesque easy approach). 5 groups skied the Grand on Sunday, including a 15 year old. We asked him what he skied when he was descending Garnet, to which he enthusiastically replied, "The Grand!"

A group of us were up there on Skillet Glacier as well. Seems it was the place to be this past weekend for Coloradans looking to avoid the stormy weather in our state. Snow softened up really fast once the sun started to hit it, we dropped in at 8.15 and could easily have been skiiing even an hour earlier than that. Lots of heavy, wet, sloughy turns down the handle, but so worth it to be up there and experience a part of the world I had never seen before!
