So I have been mulling it over for a couple years now and have decided I would like to possibly try to to through hike the Lowest to Highest trail in California.
I am posting this here to see if anyone on this forum has attempted or completed it and if so what they experienced.
130 miles long and traverses an extremely wide range of elevations, environments, and temperatures. With a great degree of planning, I think this could be a fun route, but with not enough preparedness, I think this could be a hell trip. Mostly, due to finding and carrying potable water.
Any advice, concerns, and or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Nathan
here's a link to a quick overview of the route.

How about stashing water, food, etc. at various points ahead of time along the way?
I'm sure you know all about the permitting needed to climb Mt. Whitney. That would force you to keep a fairly rigid schedule.
Sounds like a really cool trip though, let us know how it turns out!

I look up to the mountains - does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! Psalm 121:1-2

The route shared by the OP -- and thanks for sharing it, as I was unaware -- is entirely, blissfully, off-road.adamjm wrote:Many people do it under 40 hours

Yes, this is true, but I am not an ultra marathoner and this route as stated above is nearly entirely off road. It's meant to avoid the race route and give more of a backpacking experience. I intend to walk this route, and not run it.

You could read Carrot Quinn's blog about her experience on the route this past fall:

Cam Honan will be talking at Montbell in Boulder tonight at 7pm. He's done it. You could ask him about it.High_On_Thin_Air wrote:So I have been mulling it over for a couple years now and have decided I would like to possibly try to to through hike the Lowest to Highest trail in California.
