You can't hike up to the Aiguille du Midi in summertime because of the glaciers. In winter you can skin up but not in summer

No way. Taking the telepherique from 3k up to 12k meant I could climb some of the best routes anywhere, with almost no pack, and then be back in town for an awesome dinner with the family. Can't ask for much more than that. The climb - to - walk ratio is better in chamonix than anywhere I've ever been in the world.
