Re: Pikes Peak Conditions?

Post by Jaelynwolf »

I am planning a trip with some friends February 7th. I've done a bunch of hiking and climbing during both the fall and spring but never really during the middle of winter. I'm not quite sure exactly what we should bring and was wondering if anyone had any advice on this. I have a lot of winter hiking/mountaineering gear and whatever we don't have we can borrow from friends.
Thanks!!
If anyone is interested you are more than welcome to come.

If I'm not doing a 14er that day, and If we're talking a relaxed start time, I might be interested.

Email "Vangrove". He's always up there with his wife. They live in Divide and do that route like twice a week or something. I presume you're talking Crags to Devil's Playground. He'll have current info just about any week of the year. On the TH section he invites folks to contact him any time re: Crags TH conditions, so I presume he wouldn't mind. He doesn't post much otherwise, but I hear he's a pretty good good guy.

If the current warm/dry conditions persist, I personally would have snowshoes in the car but would assess at the TH with the expectation of leaving them right there where they sit, in the car. That's my favorite place for snowshoes. : (

Keep the thread going as it gets closer.

Thx,

Jim
