Looking for something to hike this weekend. Anyone know the conditions to the TH for Mt Elbert? Is this a high level Avalanche danger trail during this time of year?
Thanks
Lets maybe open this up a bit more. Im interested in bagging another 14er. 10 miles or under round trip with low avy danger.

Re: Mt. Elbert - Northeast Ridge or other...
Having been in the area driving to Harvard this weekend and barely almost making the trailhead with a lifted 4runner with great tires I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get to the trailhead for the NE Ridge route. There is some hazard on this route but solid route finding and hazard avoidance would make it reasonably safe. Theres about 3 feet of new in that area so the trees after the Colorado trail won't be very much fun even with skis
It would seem that the route for Elbert would be from the south would be your best chance but I think it would also be over 10 miles
Bross or Lincoln would fit the length criteria and you could do them from the east avoiding the avy danger by sticking to ridges of rock

We did this route many years ago in winter conditions from the Black Cloud trailhead. LONG day (don't know the exact mileage). Typical gusty winds when we hit the ridge. But, I don't recall a lot of avalanche hazards. Happy trails! :Dby killingcokes » Tue Nov 17, 2009 2:49 pm

As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM
