I'm looking to do my first hike up/ski down 14er. I hiked my fair share (14) this summer and am ready to get this inaugural winter feat accomplished. I'd classify myself as a Level III skier and am not afraid of a few core shots to get this done!
Are any of the 14ers currently ski-able? I'm trying to locate a spot to check conditions and haven't come up with anything.
Any ideas? feedback? tips?
Thanks!

Quandary is currently skiable and a good one to start with. Also from what I gather from a separate post Elbert is also skiable, especially if you're okay with core shots .

What about Sherman? I've been saving that one for a snowboard descent.

Sherman wasn't in shape on Saturday. Too dry.

I would approach the snow pack with extreme caution right now. Thin coverage, long dry spells, frigid temps, and lots of wind (especially the event we had in early December) have setup a fragile situation right now, especially on N-NE aspects. The reports on the CAIC seem to think the Wolf Creek area is currently the most stable in the south part of the state. I haven't been following things in the north that closely, though. I would consult recent TR's of the more experienced members (Jordan, Joe, Frank, etc.). Dawson's website has a lot of great resources as well.
