The winds were negligible...maybe an occasional 10mph breeze? Bluebird day. I have been up there in incredible winds but very nice this morning.

I thought I was in a designated parking area; apparently not. I least it wasn't towed.
1) It's never a good idea to park anywhere near the bottom of that 4WD road (Crest Drive, but also a Forest Service road) because the guy that owns the house just to the right of that entry has a second driveway that enters from higher on Crest Drive. Even though he can't get to it in winter, he can't stand someone blocking the bottom of Crest Drive, even though he wouldn't be able to use his 2nd driveway in winter. Just don't use the trailhead. If you want to hike up that way, park at the Moose Creek TH, walk up the main road and turn left on Crest Drive (the forest service road that continues up Mt. Lincoln).

2) It's illegal, even in this instance, for someone to vandalize a vehicle. He can call the police and have the cops make a determination on a fine, towing, or both, but he cannot legally mark-up your car. If that was my car, I would have called the cops on the guy. Sure, the cop/sheriff would have told you not to park there anymore, but the land owner would have had to go through the hassle. If the vandalism was more than soap and made marks, I would have filed a report and sued him for repairs. For a judge, that would have been a simple case - you can't vandalize a person's property.

3) The guy doesn't own Crest Drive, just the property along the sides, for the first 0.1+ mile. If you parked that Jeep there in winter and simply drove into Crest Drive until you couldn't go any further, it wasn't his property. If you pulled off to the side of the 4WD, near the bottom, you were on his property. Still, he can't vandalize your property.

As far as property issues...

If you decide to climb these peaks via a route other than the "standard" Kite Lake loop route, a "don't ask, don't tell" policy may be best.

I know, I know the routes are on 14ers.com. Well, they are in printed guidebooks, too. Those can't be recalled and I don't feel like I need to take them down. If people are determined to climb these peaks, or somehow get legit permission, I want them to be able to get the route info from 14ers.com.

If anyone goes up in the near future, I would very much appreciate photos of snow coverage on various aspects and ridges. Thanks in advance.
