I tried to summit La Plata today as it looked like the avy conditions were getting at least workable on West slopes. Unfortunately, the snowpack above treeline was still extremely unstable, and I didn't go much further than the trees. Cracks, collapsing, and lots of "whomps" all around...
Just in case anyone else is getting tempted by the "considerable" forecast from CAIC like I was today, be careful in the central Sawatch!
