Hi,
Could you please tell me when is the best time to bag this peak?
I was wanting to plan the end of June, but wasn't sure if snow would still be an issue.
Any other advise for Mt. of the Holy cross would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Mt. of the Holy Cross
I climbed Notch Mt. in 1982, 4th of July. Clear that yr. Next yr., though, still snowed in. Mt. of the Holy Cross, even higher, may be snowed longer.

Your best bet is just review trip reports posted on that peak in June. Easy to filter by peak and month here http://www.14ers.com/php14ers/tripmain.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Mt. of the Holy Cross
I was on Holy Cross last July ~8th. The weather was perfect, there was still snow on the rock scrambling sections, but it was avoidable. A couple side notes, route finding on the way back can get difficult (I took Half Moon Pass) and make sure everyone hiking with you knows what they are getting into. The latter cost me the summit.

For one, the road is closed until June 20th for Elk Calving, so the earliest you would want to go up is June 21st.
The earliest I have done the peak is 4th of July weekend (twice, 2006 and 2007) and snow has not been an issue either time on the standard route or Halo Ridge. There is patch snow in some places, but none that warranted any special gear.
I have also done Notch Mountain on June 21st (2006) and there was some snow near Halfmoon Pass but it melted before our return July 3rd that same year.

Re: Mt. of the Holy Cross
Any word on whether the road will close for beetle-kill logging this year?
