I just spoke to Dan (dmccool) on the phone, him and Jeff (SurfNTurf) just now got down safe and back into cell phone coverage and driving home.

RIP. The articles seem to indicate he was climbing on the west side of the mountain ... lots of giant loose talus blocks up there. Sad :(

Jeff (Surf'n'Turf) From Facebook: "Just got off the mountain. We were with Sean for three hours before SAR arrived and assisted in the rescue. He seemed fine...to get this news first thing back in cell service is heartwrenching. Before the inevitable begins, I just want to say Sean was well prepared and equipped."

Very sad news
- A mountain is not a checkbox to be ticked
- Alpinism and mountaineering are not restricted to 14,000 foot mountains
- Judgment and experience are the two most important pieces of gear you own
- Being honest to yourself and others about your abilities is a characteristic of experienced climbers
- Courage cannot be bought at REI or carried with you in your rucksack

This is so heartbreaking. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
