Anyone have a photo (or conditions) of the Red Gully from the last day or so? I'm wondering what's left for snow. Thanks.

Re: Crestone Peak - Red Gully
We are on Broken Hand pass right now after summiting Crestone Peak today. Still snow in the upper gully near the top which around 8 of us kick stepped in and hiked up.

Thanks!

I put up a condition report from my climb on July 10 that has some pictures in it. Hopefully they will help.

@my therapy, did you have any bad weather? I decided to wait another week due to forecast this weekend. Just curious if my decision cost me any good climbing days.

Re: Crestone Peak - Red Gully
On Saturday we started heading off the summit of Crestone Peak at 10:30 and almost immediately it started lightly hailing. It hailed and rained (thankfully no lightening or wind) for about 90 minutes. After we returned to camp in South Colony Lakes Basin, the rain was lightly falling off an on until we went to bed. Sunday's weather was nice for our climb up Crestone Needle (light clouds/fog moved in on our descent and made for some neat pictures).ksroqclimber wrote:@my therapy, did you have any bad weather? We made the same decision. If ever I saw a bad weather forecast it was this past weekend. Can't second guess the weather!!! We will be up there Saturday 19th climbing the needle. Best of luck to all of us.ksroqclimber wrote:@my therapy, did you have any bad weather? I decided to wait another week due to forecast this weekend. The summit is a source of power. The long view gives one knowledge and time to prepare. The summit, by virtue of the dizzying exposure, leaves one vulnerable. A bit of confidence and a dash of humility is all we get for our work. Yet to share these moments with friends is to be human. C. Anker
