We did a version of the route two weeks ago from Missouri Gulch. Climbed Missouri first, then down to the Missouri/Iowa saddle. Iowa was so close we climbed it too. From the saddle we angled across to Elkhead Pass. The side hilling wasn't bad, but it took a lot of time and energy. In hindsight, I think it would have been better just to head straight down from the saddle and cross over to the Elkhead Pass trail where it flattens out - trade the extra elevation loss for ease of travel. Turned out to be 15 miles and 7,100 vf.
