Awesome intel. Thanks, all. I ended up doing the Peak and got back to BHP at 10am. It was SO tempting to head over to the needle, but the rain and thunder did start coming around 12:30 so probably good I bailed.

I almost made the same mistake about the Red Gully and went to one off to the right. I just kept staring at the 14ers.com photos and corrected. The Red Gully climb was beyond fun. If every mountain had rock like that I'd end up without a job.

Both ideas sound great of either knocking the needle out first and then over to the peak, or just pulling the all-nighter and getting to the Red Gully around sunrise. Cottonwood Lake Basin was beautiful, too. Looked like a nice isolated place to camp.
