Longs week end parking
Planning to be going on Longs this Saturday. Sounds like it's very busy there on the week ends. Is the trailhead parking an issue, when too many cars or is there an overflow parking somewhere there? Don't feel like driving there and not be able to park..thank you!

Re: Longs week end parking
The last time I climbed Longs (on a Sunday in September) I was able to park in the trailhead lot at 3 AM. Time before that (Saturday in early August 2011) we had to park a couple hundred yards down the road, don't know which time for sure, but it was probably around 3 AM. Once the lot is full, folks just park on the side of the road going down, plenty of room for it. I figure if you're there before 4 you shouldn't have to park too far down, although I believe most folks recommend an earlier start.

Re: Longs week end parking
I was up there last Tuesday and the lot was almost full by 3:30. If you hate parking below the lot like I do, I'd recommend being there by 3 to be safe. Right now the conditions are excellent, and a lot of people know it. What a great finisher!
Now, bring me that horizon!

Re: Longs week end parking
I was up there last Saturday and the lot was full by the time I got there at 2:15. In the past I've gotten there as late as 2:45/3:00 and there's still been parking. If there is no parking, you can go back down to the road that leads in to the campgrounds and park on the side of the road there--meaning take the road, turn around and park on the side of the campground road--instead of driving down further on Longs Peak Rd and finding a place to park off on the shoulder.

I just park on the road around where I see the first few cars. I dont want to spend 20 minutes futilely looking for parking.

Re: Longs week end parking
A couple of Sundays ago, I arrived at 1:30am and there were 5 spots left. By the time I left at 1:45, there were none. Also, there were cars parked along the road even though there were spots left in the lot. I suspect the road parkers were campers that parked the previous day. Therefore, it might pay to go all the way to the lot even if you see cars parked on the road.
