Anyone look at Antero lately??

Post by bhollamby »

Looking to head out to Antero this week, just got some new boots and would like to give them a test run.

Anyone have any idea if there's enough snow on Antero to ski?

I drove by on 285 yesterday and snow cover looked sparse. There is a storm brewing up there right now though that could drop up to 8" which might improve the situation, but it doesn't have much of a base.

Based on Massive and Elbert, I would imagine the west face of Antero to be horribly wind blasted. You might have a chance off the south face, but I doubt the summit descent. Plus the south face could be prime avy terrain, depending on loading and sun crust.

I climbed Wednesday AM...condition of trail and trailhead have been updated.

In the free map box at the TH someone left a note with a phone number stating they found a GPS. Not sure if the owner has been located yet...
