^This. It's by far my favorite place I've camped in Colorado. You'll see quite a few day hikers on the trail, but it should be easy to find a secluded camping spot at the lake. Based on Longs and Kit Carson, this route is well within your abilities (although the rock is pretty loose).

Honorable mention: Wetterhorn/Uncompahgre from Matterhorn Creek although the backpack in isn't very far. Harvard/Columbia standard route w/ a camp around treeline.

Mostly, we agree. That has been the best part of the list (aside from new friends); seeing areas I probably would not have seen were I not making checks on it.

But while I was very focused on the list early, I think it got much better when I made it less a priority and followed a more whimsical approach to "what's next". It became, what sounds fun instead of oh, I still have to finish the Sawatch.

And truthfully, the weather there at MoBelOx prevented me from doing all at once anyway and I'm glad it did. The return trips got me my first summit with 24" of fresh snow, my first spring couloir snow climbs and my first camping above timberline. Nothing at all bad about return trips even if you don't get to hike as often as you like.

@pw
Mostly because dying on the class 5 bells traverse would really suck. Up one then the other is safer for me even if it's more vert.

You mean "dying" really sucks but "class 5 bells traverse" is really scenic. Seem to read more incidents on N.M than M.P. or the traverse. Done Pyramid and N. Maroon, and plan on departing via the traverse when doing Maroon because I'd rather descend N.M. from all I've read of the slog up it's southern neighbor.

That's a good reason. I'm not that much of a climber and I did it so I'm sort of temped to suggest giving it a shot, but you have to be comfortable on that sort of stuff, so if not, then doing them separately is best.
