When doing B-->O-->M, is it pretty apparent when heading to elkhead pass where the trail is to shoot down to the gulch and cut a little distance out of the approach to Missouri?

Yea when you are on top of Belford the trail that goes down to the gulch is very visible. We weren't even aware of the existence of the trail before we went up there, but as soon as we saw it we knew it was the way we were going down because the front of Belford is so much suck.

It will save you quite a bit of elevation on the way to Missouri as you never drop below the trail up to the Missouri ridge, unlike if you were to descend the standard Belford route.

It also gives you a birds eye view of the East Ridge of Missouri. Not a route to be taken lightly, and I would only recommend it to hit all 3 in a day if you are very confident in your stamina, route-finding and are really comfortable on loose stuff.

Have you considered another hike possibly to prep for Longs? I've done longs and missouri and in my opinion a better prep hike was the needle personally. But yea, I would agree with going up bel/oxford first then over to missouri. The ride on missouri some fun low level scrambling and beautiful views though. As long as you move along quickly and stay hydrated and fueled it'll be a grueling but pleasant endeavor.
