Unbelievable. It almost looks like some sort of surrealistic volcanic eruption.
Is that what you meant by "the shot I want"?
I am almost certain that's not a straight out of the camera shot. Almost all photos require editing (whites, blacks, highlights, shadows, white balance, noise reduction to start) to make them look even close to real life. It's still an incredible photo. OP absolutely nailed it from idea to execution.

Harvester wrote: Spectacular! How long was your exposure?
3 x 180s for the foreground
2x 45s for the sky

I stacked the exposures to reduce sensor noise.

Other info: Sony A7, Rokinon 14mm, f2.8, ISO 3200. Minimal edits to reduce noise even further and bring out detail in shadows.

Close! I'd love to go back with even better gear to get the shot again! I'm running on the ragged edge of my equipment's capability.

Surprisingly warm and totally sublime. I was prepared for much worse weather though, so that definitely helped!

-----------------

Quick side note: I've had a few people contact me about getting prints of the shot! I'm truly honored! I've honestly never printed my work before, so I'm working to find a printing shop that will do the shot justice. (I've heard night shots are difficult to print correctly) Anyways, It looks like aspen creek photo is the way to go.

Once I figure that out, I'll let all interested parties know! I'll keep it cheap for you all, as I'm not making a living off of this. (Think printing/shipping cost + a bit of gas money for the next adventure)

Let me know if you'd like to pick one up too!

great photo. You must have played with the colors on the milky way, or was it naturally pink like that?
