Elbert and Massive from Single Base Camp
Process of planning trip in September and have Elbert and Massive on target list. Can anyone advise whether or not its feasible to camp in one location and have access to each of these summits from single base camp? We'd like to do one climb on Friday and second on Saturday. Any other advice on these summits appreciated. Most of us have climbed multiple 14'ers including Chicago Basin group, Holy Cross, Blanca, Ellingwood, Crestone Peak, Qunad., Democrat, Lincoln, etc.

Elbert NE ridge trail head and Massive East Slopes trail head are about 1/4 mile apart
on the same road.
While "Base Camping" is not allowed at either parking lot, "Dispersed
Camping" is allowed along the road. In addition, there are several
near by Forest Service campgrounds.

Yup, Monte Meals mentioned the routes, and there may be camping nearby.
Doing both mountains (traditionally in a day) is called the "Half Moon Half Pipe" (so searching for that phrase might give more info) because of starting from Half Moon Creek/Road and going up-and-down either mountain on each side.

Re: Elbert and Massive from Single Base Camp
i've stayed at the camp site right across from the elbert trail head. it's a really nice and quiet campground. as much traffic as elbert gets, we didn't hear a peep. their restrooms were also really clean and we had a well-flowing creek right next to our camp so we had plenty of (good tasting) water. iirc it was $15/night. i know most people don't like to pay to camp just on principle, but we drove out from cali and liked having a semi-formal base camp area.Monte Meals wrote:Elbert NE ridge trail head and Massive East Slopes trail head are about 1/4 mile apart
