Snow on Elbert?

Post by paul109876 »

Planning on taking a couple of 1st time hikers up Elbert from Twin Lakes, any snow on top?
Shooting for 9/2 or 9/3
Try waking up on the right side of the grass- that's a good place to start
Opinions are like A$$Holes- everyone has one, but some stink worse than others. So please, keep your opinion clean.
I work a lot of hours so I don't have to sleep outside and so I can go on vacation and be outside.

Yes. I was out at twin lakes yesterday for work. There is snow on Elbert. No idea how much or if it will be there when you're going.

I was up Huron, la Plata and massive this past weekend and there was some old snow above 13400ft and new snow fell Sunday above 13k. That being said it was only a dusting, few inches at most that did slow progress, but wasn't a big deal. Just wear shoes with good tread and take your time. I'd expect a lot of it to melt off later this week as it's warming up a bit and only the north facing slopes held snow for more than a day or two.
