La Plata Moonset/Sunrise Sat 17 Sept?

Post by Daniel Joder »

This may be a long shot due to the early hour...but is anyone interested in hiking up La Plata very early this Saturday for some sunrise/moonset photography? I have been up there before in early spring conditions but would like to go up, do some photo stuff, then scramble over and back to East Plata as well (I'm working on the list of 73--or 74--and didn't tag East Plata on my last trip due to excessive snow coverage). The forecast is not perfect but seems reasonable for now--maybe a clearing trend going on Saturday into Sunday. I plan to leave the trailhead at 2a.m. and hope to make the summit around 6:30a.m. (Sunrise is at 6:50a.m. and a 99% Moon sets at 7:41a.m.) Anyone interested? Anyone...Bueller...Bueller? Would prefer to have some company to keep it a bit safer as well as enjoyable.

Or...will anyone be up there this Saturday a bit later in the morning? It would be nice to know there were folks on the trail coming up behind me. Northwest Ridge Route. Thanks!

A group of us will be doing the Ellingwood Ridge route on Saturday and one will be doing the standard Northwest Ridge route. We are starting early, but probably not as early as you. So you won't be alone. Looks like the weather should be good.
Century Bound, eventually.

Thanks, good to know! I'll see if I can get some telephoto shots of you on Ellingwood Ridge if I see you.
