How's the road out?
Life is too short to pay full retail for outdoor gear!

I am unsure, however, I think there will be a change in plans and I will end up doing Pike's.

Pikes may be very busy that day. The incline reopens the day before.

I wouldn't worry. Ideally you would be starting Pikes earlier than most people will be doing the incline (assuming hiking the peak in one day) and if you take Barr trail, you wont see too much of a crowd.
