Denver Skyline Peak Finder?

Post by madbuck »

Howdy,

I now find myself working in a tall building in Denver, facing West, being taunted by 'new' mountains (I used to recognize the ones from Fort Collins).

Does anybody know of an online annotated "Peak Finder" image (or an online app or Google-earth setting or something, but I don't have any sort of app-capable phone) that tells the names of the peaks on the Denver skyline? Certainly somebody has done this or wanted it before, and I'm too lazy to figure it out by hand.

Cheers!

Don't know of an app; Google Earth helps a lot, otherwise: http://www.lookoutstudios.com/prints/front_range.jpg

There are a couple of posters out there that do mostly what you're asking.

Does anyone know what peak that is to the right of Mt. Evans? It has a bald spot on the northeast side of the summit when viewed from Denver.

I believe you are referring to Squaw Mountain.

fwiw: it's a super easy family hike, up a closed road to radio and microwave towers.

If you know how to play with Google Earth, by panning out and changing your POV, you can have a lot of fun on my site looking at mountains - at least if you're a dork like me... hehe

There is a panorama map/drawing of all the peaks you can see from roughly the denver area, all the peaks are labeled. I think REI, Barnes/Noble and Tattered Cover carry it.
