West Pawnee Butte

Postby Brian C » 01 Mar 2012, 18:37

I think some folks might find this interesting. Last weekend a rather large crew set out with an even odder set of equipment to climb the rarely visited West Pawnee Butte in NE Colorado. Eight folks reached the summit (likely a record) and probably doubled the number that have even stood on the summit.

Here's a compilation of photos on my site.

That's pretty wild! Brian in the wild!

Sucks that there's no HH tonight. I'm good to go this week.

I've seen those guys in the distance while driving around the eastern plains nabbing highpoints. Congrats on an inventive way of making the top!

A very entertaining day, I was glad to be a part of it. Though the way you and Noah did it last winter will go down in history as one of the most hair-raising things I've ever read. The ladder assist this time was awesome!

Once again, for anybody interested the West Butte is sitting out there waiting to be climbed! A few of us did it again the weekend before last (no ladders!). We did the same route that Noah and I did 3 years ago. Here was his report Scared on the Pawnee Buttes from 2 years ago. This is one of my favorite summits on the Front Range and was my third time up top (not sure I'll do this route again though!).

Short report I wrote can be found here.
