Re: Flattop mountain
I was near that area on Sunday (Emerald Lake). Crampons wouldn't be needed unless you are planning to climb one of the southern couloirs. Most of the trails are well-packed in that area, and I just used microspikes. I didn't go up the Flattop Mountain Trail though, so I can't specifically speak to that. Prepare for wind on that route in winter.

Re: Flattop mountain
I was thinking of going up there to ski either tomorrow or Sunday. It looks like they got 8 inches this week. Anyone know how the skiing is up there? and anyone want to join me?
