Lawn Lake Trail Conditions

Post by jsdratm »

Has anyone been on the Lawn Lake Trail in RMNP since the flooding? It sounds like it may have been damaged, how bad is it?

There are a few short sections where the trail is completely gone, the bank having been washed out. All of these were in places where it was easy to bypass, just cutting around and rejoining the trail. Most of the trail has very little damage. I went all the way to Lawn Lake 2 or 3 weeks after the park reopened. A bit of downed timber just past the Black Canyon intersection. The bridge over the stream at the start of the Ypsilon trail was washed out but you could find a way across just a bit upstream earlier this fall. I don't know if the cold and snow will have made that easier or harder now, though.

The road to Endovalley, however...that's worth a look

Just as a note, google has updated their satellite images in the Estes Park area, and you can see a good deal of the flood damage with it. Lots of big mudslides in the Lumpy Ridge area
Some rise, some fall, some climb to get to terrapin

I was there earlier this Fall.

The trail ends with steep drop offs in various places where it used to follow the river. But other than that, it's not actually damaged. Just leave the trail and rejoin it 50m later.
