Is this the route you're talking about on Falcon, Jeff?

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know. - Rene Daumal

Note the parking lot for Falcon overflows on the weekends when it's nice. It's one our regular stay-in-shape hikes in the winter.

Im working on a goal starting next week, I would like to hike around 5-10k worth of elevation gain per week. Ive been hitting Mt Morrison about 3 times a week because of the almost 2000' gain over 1.8miles however its getting old. What are some of your favorite steep grade hikes in the Denver metro area? Looking for some that gain 1750 or more over around 5 miles RT max you know some good leg burning hikes that you use for 14er training.

Thanks!
What route are you using for Morrison? Which trailhead?

Hi Valesia,

Mount Falcon isn't sexy - but if you do a multiple of the routes you can get over 2,500' of total gain in about 13 miles RT.
Bergen peak is about 2,200' of gain, 9.5 miles RT from the standard TH.
Bear and South Boulder get almost 3,000' of gain from the Mesa TH in Eldo... similar gain from NOAA parking lot.
Closer to elevation - a combo of Squaw, Papoose and Chief get about 2,000' gain (maybe 1800') in about 6.5 miles RT.
In Colorado Springs - Blodgett Peak from the main TH is a steep 2,300' in about 5.5 miles RT. Not spectacular scenery any more since the fire.
Bill W.

Time for the next great losing streak to begin.

The East Face route http://www.summitpost.org/mount-morrison/790630" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Good leg burner
