Gated roads

Post by jomagam »

I was planning to tag Squaw Mountain today, but there was a closed gate halfway up the road, just after the switchback. It did not have a No Trespassing (or any other) sign on it, like a couple of other gates I ran into that sprung into existence since my last time here in April. So was it for vehicles only, or humans too ?

I think it's just for vehicles. I've come across several over the years and most are there for vehicles, unless otherwise stated, of course.

I've always gone by the presence or absence of a "no trespassing" sign in that circumstance. The forest service ranger station can tell you for sure.

I've never seen that gate open, but the FS page says "area open", so I'm pretty sure it's just to keep vehicles out and away from the comm. towers. They rent out the lookout tower, and even then I think you have to hike up from the gate.
