mount saint Francis climbing

Post by pvnisher »

has anyone climbed the rocks on the west side of mount saint Francis in Colorado springs? it looks like a decent wall, but probably private property. I don't see any beta online, though.

That place is right up the street from me, and yes, it's on private property, owned by the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration.

Normally, I would say "go for it." I've jumped plenty of barbed wire fences and been chased off peaks by farmers, ranchers, and even a couple of shotgun-wielding teenagers on ATVS. But do you really want to mess with nuns?

I was thinking maybe of just asking them, and coming with a no_liability waiver in hand.
I don't think I'll poach a climb from nuns!
but I haven't even been up close to it, and can't seemto find any info. all iI've seen is from the road, but it looks interesting, especially if it is kinda unexplored.

Well, good luck to you. Your best bet for beta is probably Harvey Carter's journals, which are at the American Alpine Club in Golden. He climbed everything in the Colorado Springs area, including Mount Saint Francis. I don't know if the alpine club has them available for viewing by the public, but you could give them a call and ask.
