Lone Eagle snow?

Post by TomPierce »

Howdy all,
I have a work buddy from out of state who will hike up to Lone Eagle Peak next week with his new girlfriend who is somewhat new to overnight backpacking. I won't have a chance to hike in to check it out for him. Anyone been up there recently who can report on snow conditions? Any pics?

Many thanks,
-Tom

That would be perfect. Ordinarily my view on asking for conditions is to just get up there and check it out myself. But I can't make it up there, and he and I are just concerned the trail will be a snowy, rutted mess through the trees. He's trying to make it a great, low-epic trip. You know...new girlfriend and all.

Many thanks,

-Tom

Hi Tom,

Not sure of your friends desired route but I was up there yesterday via Brainard. The trail to Pawnee Pass is good with occasional avoidable patches of snow. The pass is snow covered but they can hug rib right or high left to avoid. The CDT down to Pawnee Lake is clear. I didn't venture beyond since my plans took me to Mt. Toll but from what I saw yesterday all North aspects are holding snow. I can post some pics later if you'd like.

Photos would be great. I'm going to run the loop, wouldn't mind knowing how much snow i'll be fighting before I get out there.
