CO SPNGS - Talus Monkey Life Celebration
Hello all,
CONative started this in another thread, but think it is a great idea. Thursday night is the second year since Talus Monkey's accident which claimed his life. (CONative was one of the SAR members we rely on who was called to that rescue.)
Personally, I learned of David Worthington through a simple thread on May 8th, 2007. My first thought was "he is only one year older than me". The result was more than humbling, but lead me to a community of new friends. Little more than a month later, many of us got together to rescue a simple dog on Torreys Peak with David in our thoughts.
Thursday, is the two year mark on the accident which lead to his passing. CONative's thoughts are good and we should not think of the tragedy, but celebrate a life and others cut short. David touched many early 14ers.com members and remains a presence on the home page. For the Colorado Springs (and vicinity) group, let us gather to raise a toast at 8:00pm to remember, simply, why we do this and those we have lost. We are a vast group from the novice to the seasoned veteran, but share a similar desire.
For those in Colorado Springs, let us start gathering at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 7th at 7:00 at Phantom Canyon (Pikes Peak and Cascade - Second floor). I will be wearing my 14ers.com hat, so look for me if you are new. A great way to start a new season and remember those we have lost.
Dave

Wish I could make it ... but I'll definitely drink one (or five or six) for TM on Thursday. It probably won't be malt liquor, as it's not my cup of beer, but an IPA should be suitable. And it's the thought that counts, right? :D
I wish people on the North Side of Den gathered like you Springs people. You're quite the socialites down there.

Re: CO SPNGS - Talus Monkey Life Celebration
In my life when soneone I care about dies, I always have this heavy feeling of sadness when it comes close to the date that person died, even when I'm not paying attention to the date. Last year, one year to the day I found myself an emotional wreck, not really understanding why. I didn't make the connection of the date. Then my phone rang and it was Holly, calling to talk as she was feeling it too. When she reminded me that it had been a year it all made sense. I can't say that this year I feel any different. I still think about that sucker all the time, like a lot of you do. I've had moments where I have really felt like he was with me.
I have my sons after work on the Thurs and they have baseball so there is no way I can make it down to the Springs. I'll be thinking about David tho. I'm sure you wil all do him proud.
Wow. I'm really feeling it today but at the same time there is still so much about him that is also making me smile and laugh.
