Deepest sympathy to family and friends in the wake of this tragic loss. May he rest in peace forever, and may his memory always be a blessing.

As if it wasn't bad enough, there was also this:
"As the body was being moved to the helicopter, an person watching the effort from above the accident scene caused a rockslide with debris striking two rescue workers. The onlooker and one rescue worker had to leave the scene for immediate medical attention."
Please be careful out there!

Re: Capitol Peak Overdue Climber: Have you seen?
Mountain Rescue Aspen would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the fallen climber.
We got a little dinged up today but were able to bring a fallen mountaineer home to his family due in part to the help of THIS community and the brotherhood of mountaineers.
In response to our post for help we were reminded of a Saturday 8/3/14 post regarding a red and black pack sited "off route" posted by another community member.
After scanning the peak and surrounding cliff bands for sometime we were drawn back to the location of the 14ers.com member's post. Due in part to the activity of two mountaineers who decided to investigate this "Gear on a ledge" after seeing us fly around for over an hour. In route, they were able to pick up many personal items of the climber from the rock ledges leading to the "Gear on the Ledge" and ultimately led us to a location deep in the bergschrund and not visible from the air.
It required the efforts of many to located this mountaineer and bring him home. We wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to YOU; who support ALL of the SAR teams in the state.
We also like to recognize HAATS (High Altitude Army National Guard Aviation Training Site)in Eagle, Co for their tireless support of our team. (The Blackhawk and Chinook teams)
Without these amazing airmen our jobs would be much more difficult.

I am sorry to hear of the climbing community's loss. I had the opportunity to meet Jim in 2003 at the Barkley Marathons. You could tell instantly that he was a man of character and spirit. He had the constitution to achieve uncommon feats. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Horrible to hear after being gone for 3 weeks. Rest in peace my friend. I hope no one takes offense to this poem but I am always reminded of this when someone passes in the mountains.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

My prayers go out to his friends and family.
Thanks SAR. I was wondering if the backpack was his.
