Hikers missing on La Plata Peak

Just saw this from the Chaffee County Sheriff's Facebook page. Hoping for the best...

For Immediate Release
At approximately 12:00am, the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding two missing parties who had summited LaPlata Peak at 4:00pm on Saturday 1/31/2015. The two mountaineers contacted family informing them of their summit and said they would return to the trailhead by 10:00pm. After failing to return to their vehicle the Sheriff’s Office was contacted. Currently, there are ground teams searching for the missing hikers and air support is en route.

I've been turned around in the woods below the northwest ridge in winter before. Not a place I would want to be trying to navigate in the dark. Hoping for the best outcome!

Wow. Just did La Plata a few weeks ago and although we made it down to the standard valley before dark, we were relying on GPS for routefinding. Some of that terrain in the trees gets really confusing if there isn't a clear, broken trail. Hoping for the best.

I hope that they are rescued shortly! Thoughts and prayers to the missing hikers and their families :(

The missing mountaineers on La Plata Peak have been located by Chaffee County Search and Rescue North. They are currently descending the mountain.
There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.

It's always great to get this kind of news concerning these types of situations. Great to hear!
Seems like the times that I need a mountain the most are the times that I can not get to them.

Very great news! We were very very excited to see them walking! Lots of take home lessons to be learned for sure. It doesn't matter how much experience you have, or what you think you know, the mountain always has the final say! Very glad they are able to be home safe!
