Stewart Creek TH

Post by oldschool »

When I look at TH driving instructions for Stewart Creek on 14ers.com it says stay on 15GG Rd all the way. When I punch in Stewart Creek TH on Google Maps it clearly shows it on 14DD Rd. Which is it? Kind of a big difference!

I am pretty sure I remember it being CR 14 DD. You are only on 15 GG for about 3 miles and if you stay on it you'll end up doing a funky loop back up to 14NN. The easiest way to remember is you are going to hit a fork in the road about 3 miles after you head SW from the Dome Reservoirs on 15 GG, take the right fork and that will take you Stewart Creek. If I remember right, there are some signs that are helpful.
Seems like the times that I need a mountain the most are the times that I can not get to them.

We were just there climbing Stewart/Baldy Alto. Once you get past Dome Lakes there are signs to Stewart Creek TH. It is pretty hard to miss. There is a great campsite on the left about 100 yards before the TH. Look to your left and you will see tire track up a small hill. That is the campsite.

Also, 14 NN loops and hits 114 in two places. Bill's directions indicate the turn on the northern part of the loop, which is correct if you are coming from the north. If you are coming from the south do not take the first 14 NN, rather drive over the pass and look for 17 GG. Turn left on 17 GG and after 4 miles it hits 14 NN, take a right and in a mile or so you are at the lakes. Take a left at the the lakes.

The summit is a source of power. The long view gives one knowledge and time to prepare. The summit, by virtue of the dizzying exposure, leaves one vulnerable. A bit of confidence and a dash of humility is all we get for our work. Yet to share these moments with friends is to be human. C. Anker
