Missouri Lakes Trail PSA

Post by Chicago Transplant »

Information from the US Forest Service regarding temporary closures on the Missouri Lakes Trail in Holy Cross Wilderness this month is below. They are replacing the second bridge, as such, you will not be able to access Missouri Lakes from the trail (that would be a very tough crossing w/o the bridge, its basically over a waterfall). You can still access Missouri Lakes, you just have to go over Fancy Pass and Missouri Pass to do so (and go back out that same way).
The Missouri Lakes Trail #2033 will be closed to all users from August 15 through August 22 to allow replacement of bridge #2 over Missouri Creek. The Eagle-Holy Cross Wilderness and Trail crews will be working with Rocky Mountain Youth Corps crews to replace this bridge using native stringers and decking.

The crews will begin working on the trail starting July 18 prepping for the bridge work and re-constructing wet area crossings called turnpikes along the entire length of the trail. For that reason, from July 18 through August 22, the Missouri Lakes Trail will be closed to all pack-stock (horses, llamas, mules) use as well.

From August 15 through August 22, hikers and backpackers may continue to hike to Missouri Lakes using the Fancy Creek Trail #2006, but will not be able to make a loop out of the hike. Please respect this closure since it is in place for both worker and public safety.
