The Canon S110, in my opinion, is the best camera near $200. a 5x zoom (24-120mm equiv.) is plenty of zoom, and the sensor is a larger 1/1.7" 12MP, which is also plenty for anyone wanting a simple point in shoot.

However, if you want to step up your game, I highly recommend the Sony RX100, which can be found in the $400 range new. the newer RX100ii is slightly nicer, but more expensive, and really not worth the extra cost unless you're really wanting the extra features afforded by having the hotshoe, WIFI, NFC, and slightly better low light sensor (about 1/3 of a stop better, so not much).

Currently I'm shooting on the Ricoh GR, and i absolutely love it, and the price has come down quite a bit over the last few weeks.
