Sawyer the 14er Canine Turns 14

Post by Inky6900 »

Hi All,

My dog, Sawyer, turned 14 years old yesterday. My book about him and his quest to climb the 14ers, "Climbing Colorado's 14ers With Sawyer", is now in the first round of edits. I've been working on this book for his entire lifetime. There will be at least 5 rounds of editing but at least I am getting closer to having this completed. The first round is almost done. The book will feature...

- 14er Peak List
- 14er Colorado Map
- History of 14er Dogs
- Tips & Tricks for Climbing with a dog
- Short Stories About Sawyer from Each 14er Climb
- 8 Lengthy Chapters Detailing Select Climbs and Our Lives Together
- Several Other Fun & Exciting Pages

The book has...

- 352 Pages
- Full Color
- Over 400 Color Photographs

The Front & Back Covers are here for a sneak peek.

How is Sawyer doing in his golden years ? I, sadly, had to put my 12 year old yellow lab to rest in August. I now have a 7 month old chocolate lab that has quickly mended my broken heart. :)

I'm sorry to hear about your yellow lab. I'm dreading the day I have to make that decision.

Soy's doing very well but he's arthritic from head to tail. His blood work is excellent though and he's in great spirits and in great shape for his age. He swims once or twice a week, every week, for 40 minutes each session.

The cover looks awesome Josh, I can't wait to see the book.

It has been a privilege for Sierra and I to be included in your project, thanks again.

I also have a Golden named Sawyer, I've had him for two years and he's been up about 20 or so peaks with me so far. Awesome that you've been able to share so many summit experiences with your Sawyer!

I had a Golden, named Odin, who did 16 of the 14ers with me. Unfortunately he went from being a strong, healthy, 14er climbing 6 year old pup to developing lymphoma and dying in one months time. After he passed away in 2004 my passion for climbing 14ers severely diminished since he was my climbing partner. It took several years to start climbing again, this time with human hiking partners.

Two years ago however I got another Golden. Loki the Summit Pup has done 5 14ers and an equal number of 12 and 13ers and countless lower peaks. Hopefully this summer we will be adding to those totals.
