What kind of ski setups are you riding this year?

George, I didn't now you broke you leg.... wow, I think if I click into my alpines I will take switching out the soles more seriously.

Bean, The endorphins have a plastic connector between the heel and toe so no such trickery is possible unless you break the plastic. It just occurred to me though that I could use the alpine sole screwed into a 2x4 for tuning my skis, my clamps are 20 years old and I am too cheap to replace them for a pair that accepts modern skis.

Yeah, and in retrospect I fear that it was a small fine tuning of gear oversight that ended up becoming a huge mistake, resulting is significant injury. On one hand it was an idiot move on my part that I often feel like kicking myself for (with my good leg), on the other hand it's seems like a small detail that could be easy to overlook for somebody else, so I shared it here in the hopes that I would help others from making the same mistake.

Sorry to divert the thread though...on with the ski setup role call.

Woohoo! Benners and I were out on James Peak a couple of days ago, and though neither one of us was on his A-game, it was fun enough to relight the fires. So greetings once again, ladies and gents. And what better way to begin the season than a good brag-fest.

Soon a pair of 192 BD Zealots w/ Freerides and some Spirit 4s. Going to get last years Zealots, I don't want the early rise tip.

Caveat emptor. My first attempt with Zealots I mounted them with Freerides and was skiing them with Garmont Axons (slightly stiffer than Spirit 4s). I thought they were garbage and the mounting point was way off. Remounted them with alpine bindings at +3cm and started skiing them with stiff alpine boots - I now consider the Zealots the best ski I've ever owned. They don't come alive until you're moving fast so you've gotta be able to drive them. But if your boots are dialed in, they are absurdly damp and stable for how light they are.

BD Kilowatts w/ Fritschi Eagles and G3 Alpinist Skins (long tours, non-pow tours)

I didn't have any problems skiing the Zealots last year with my Denali's, or Tornados. I've decided not to put Freerides on my new ones though. I'm going to go with the G3 Onyx instead. I like what they've done with the dyna fit design, I could actually work on those bindings and not get pissed off at them. Too bad your Zealots didnt pan out the first time. I know a few people that get rocked by those things.

The brakes are out Wilderness Sports in Dillon and Mountain Outfitters in Breck both have them. They also have a ski crampon that fits. I spoke to the rep the other day and he said what they are working on now is a foot puck for the folks that ski tech mounts on NTN boots. The puck keeps the billows from flexing when the heel is locked.
