I have a Bear Vault and last year at Lake Como, the couple camping next to us reported that a bear came into camp after we left for Blanca -- found my canister, knocked it over, rolled it around a bit and then moved on. one data point. I've used it another 4 - 5 times but don't think any bears came near it. you're not supposed to, but they make a nice stool also.
