Tires on a Jeep Liberty
For those who drive a Liberty or similar vehicle, what tires do you use?? I live in Keystone, so obviously snow handling is a big concern as is off road versatility. I am looking for a tire that does great year round, not just winter or summer. So, what do you have and how do you like them.

Re: Tires on a Jeep Liberty
My neighbor has a Liberty that he takes mild off-roading fairly often. I know he has ATs on it, and I want to say they're General Grabber AT2s, but they might also be Cooper or Hankook. Unfortunately he's out of town right now so I wouldn't be able to check for sure.

There is no solid answer, but Nitto Terra Grapplers get my vote. They are terrific all winter long in Wisconsin snow, and handle Colorado trails just fine

Re: Tires on a Jeep Liberty
I don't have a Jeep Liberty, but I swear by anything by Michelin in the LTX series, and have used them exclusively on my last two trucks (a Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 and Toyota Tundra TRD 4x4). I am currently running the Michelin LTX MS2's which are more of an all season radial than an off-road tire but they do make the LTX AT 2's which is a more aggressive tire. The things I like most about them are they are super quit (no road noise), wear well (I rotate them every 5000 miles or so), and they last forever (depending on the model Michelin guarantees them for 70,000-90,000 miles). I drive 4WD roads in these trucks to get to trailheads, etc. maybe 10-20 times a year and so far they've been great (although I could see you wanting something a bit more aggressive for some roads). Of course a Jeep Liberty isn't really a Rubicon so clearance is going to factor into which roads you drive more than tires will.
Just my two cents,
Kai

I don't drive a Jeep, but I put Goodrich AT's on my rig. 4x4 in the summer, Leadville snow in the winter. I hear the downside to All Terrain's is they wear faster(ish) than highway tires. I haven't had any problems.

I don't know if they make these in the size that a liberty would need, but I put some Cooper ST Maxx on my tacoma and they were great in the snow this past winter (live in breck) . They are studdable as well if you want the extra grip, although its hard to imagine really needing them.

Yeh, I have only gotten 40k out of my Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's, but the grip they give off road and in snow makes up for it. On tire rack, I saw that khumo road venture AT is pretty decent, but they didn't have as many reported miles as the others, so they might be a bit biased from such a small sample size. Living up here, for the best all around I am looking for ATs.sarahhaubert wrote:I don't drive a Jeep, but I put Goodrich AT's on my rig. 4x4 in the summer, Leadville snow in the winter. Re: Tires on a Jeep Liberty
Had great luck with a set of Terra Grappler's. I put 50k miles on them in an xterra and still sold them on CL for $200. Also really liked the Michelin LTX MS2's though they were too street oriented for me in an xterra. Didn't love the grip in snow on the Cooper Discoverer ATS's in our Pathfinder. Great results so far (only got 1 winter on them so far) with the General Grabber AT2's in my beater wrangler and the price was significantly lower than the BFG AT's. Also had great results (2 full years so far) with a set of Cooper Discoverer ATP's in the excursion.
That said, they all sucked in snow compared to the studded Nokian's I was running on the Forester XT though.

I have the Kuhmo AT51 on my 2012 Liberty. Just did Baldwin Gulch this weekend, no lift. These tires have been great so far

Re: Tires on a Jeep Liberty
People love to bash the Jeep Liberty's. It's downright hilarious at times. Regardless it can you into places other vehicles can't or you won't due to cost. I still have my stock 2002 Jeep Liberty and have taken it to nearly all the 14ers and plenty of gnarly 4WD roads. So far over 145,000 miles I have had the 3 following types: Original Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's (~60k miles), the BF Goodrich AT KO's (~60k miles), and now the Bridgestone Dueler AT's (~25k miles). The SR-A's are junk for all terrain traction, the BFG's were good but do seem to wear down fast at the end of life for the cost. I like the Dueler's currently.
Fun vehicle but note to self: Never buy a first year model of a vehicle though unless you enjoy recalls and repairing things yourself.
